When I read the title of Charles Eisenstein’s book “the more beautiful work our heart knows is possible” I loved it. So much so that I immediately bought it and started reading.
It seemed to me that this was a fundamental idea something at the root of all the difficulties and conflict in the world. If only we used our hearts to navigate to a better world we could succeed where we have failed in the past. As I read on it was obvious it the title was only half the story. I wanted to spend more time contemplating what the heart knows. Years later I have stumbled my way towards a way to explore what a heartfelt world might look like. As for what is looks like for me that is not important. Explaining my world won’t do much to help you discover yours. So I have added some suggestions below you might like to use to discover your own.
Our beautiful world starts with each one of us.
Imagine that you control and create everything you are experiencing in the world. Don’t worry for now about whether it is true or not that is not the point of the experiment. Just imagine that you are creating everything you see, hear, know, remember, perceive, feel every moment and that everything is happening now.
Now that you are the absolute creator of your world start to move around the pieces so that it is exactly as you want it. Maybe you will start by abolishing hunger from your world, you will perhaps imagine that everyone has a source of nourishment that is perfect for them. As you imagine this notice how you are feeling? Do you feel excited by this thought or anxious or something else?
As you imagine it does the feeling you have come from imagining the wonderful feeling of nourishment for all or does it come from thoughts that are turning up in your head. Thoughts perhaps like “who is worthy of nurture?” or “there is not enough for everyone?” as these thoughts come up let them go so you can go back to imagining what it will look like when everyone has enough food. Then imagine everyone has enough of what they need. What does that look like? Are there any thoughts that come up that get in the way?
Notice what metaphors/cliches help you to feel or imagine what you are thinking about. Now take them apart. Roll them around in your mind so you can stripe them down and illuminate what they mean to you. Again tame your brain as you go. Weed out phrases and ideas that start with “but we can’t..” and only allow just for now phrases that start with “Yes and that means…”
Slow down and once you have an imagine of what this looks like to you, wrap it round so it makes a ball. Then imagine it dropping into your heart (maybe it is already there, in which case you can skip this step) then imagine it rise up out of your heart all the way up to the top of your head and let it move still further until it is in the big beyond / the heart of all.
There is a saying that goes something like, “everything that you want is already here” and another that says “what you are seeking is seeking you”. So creating a new world is perhaps only about imagining what is already in your heart, all you need to do is to allow it to become a perceivable reality by you.
So what is in the way of beginning to imagine? You can have anything you want just ask. The Universe/God/Brahman/Allah/All that is, will do the heavy lifting as always.
